Laser pilonidal sinus treatment in Ataşehir, Istanbul: step by step

Laser pilonidal sinus treatment is done under local anaesthesia and, in suitable patients, without a large incision. At our practice in Ataşehir the process has three stages: consultation, procedure day and follow-up.

1. Consultation: is laser right for you?

At the first visit we ask how long symptoms have lasted and whether you have had an abscess or surgery before. The area is examined to assess the number and spread of tract openings. If there is an active, inflamed abscess, inflammation is allowed to settle first and laser is planned later.

2. Procedure day

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and you go home the same day. The tracts are cleaned and then closed from inside with a thin laser fibre. Please share the medicines you take, especially blood thinners.

2. Procedure day

3. The first week

Mild pain and a small amount of discharge are normal in the first days. Most desk workers return to work within a few days. Breaking up long sitting and keeping the area clean and dry are recommended.

4. Follow-up and preventing recurrence

Healing is monitored at follow-up visits. After healing, controlling hair in the area with laser hair removal or regular removal helps reduce the risk of recurrence.

When is another method needed?

In early-stage disease, phenol can be used alone or combined with laser. Surgery comes first for recurrences, very extensive sinus openings and cases where laser was tried before without success. The choice depends on examination findings.
