Why does the upper arm accumulate fat and laxity?
With age, weight changes and genetic predisposition, the back of the upper arm tends to collect fat and lose firmness. Diet and exercise reduce overall body fat, but stubborn local fat and mild to moderate laxity in this area do not always improve enough.
How do laser lipolysis and endolaser work?
In laser lipolysis a thin laser fibre is advanced through a fine cannula to deliver energy to the fat layer; melted fat can be removed with fine cannulas when needed. Endolaser heats the tissue beneath the skin to stimulate collagen and support gradual tightening. In the arm the two are often combined.
Who may be suitable?
Adults with a stable weight, localised arm fat and mild to moderate laxity who have realistic expectations.
Who is it not suitable for?
It is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection in the area, bleeding disorders or uncontrolled chronic illness. After major weight loss with marked excess skin, a surgical arm lift (brachioplasty) may be more appropriate.
How is it performed?
Usually under local (tumescent) anaesthesia through a few millimetre-sized entry points. Duration depends on the treated area, and patients go home the same day.
Recovery
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are expected in the first days. A compression garment is usually recommended for a few weeks. Most people return to desk work within a few days; heavy arm exercise is postponed for a few weeks.
When are results visible?
As swelling settles the contour starts to show within weeks; tightening progresses over months and final assessment is usually made at 3–6 months. Keeping weight stable helps maintain the result.
Possible risks
Bruising, temporary numbness, surface irregularity, burns, infection and fluid collection (seroma) can occur. Seek medical advice promptly for increasing pain, redness, fever or discharge.
