What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is male gland enlargement and differs from fat alone, although both may coexist. A hard unilateral lump, rapid growth, discharge or significant pain requires medical assessment.

Grades I–II: who may be considered?

The focus is selected mild-to-moderate grade I–II cases. Fat predominance, limited excess skin and elasticity matter. Grade alone is insufficient: firm gland or substantial excess skin may require excision or other surgery. Photographs alone cannot establish stage.

When is treatment not recommended?

This elective treatment is not performed during active infection, pregnancy, uncontrolled systemic illness or significant wound-healing problems. Treatment while taking warfarin or other anticoagulants is not recommended in this clinic pathway because of bleeding risk. Do not stop medication yourself; any future plan requires coordination with the prescribing clinician.

Clinical assessment

Consultation with Op. Dr. Salim Balin covers duration, medicines and supplements, weight change, previous procedures and expectations. Fat, gland, symmetry and skin are examined, with investigations or referral when needed.

How is the procedure performed?

A thin laser fibre delivers energy through small access points under suitable anaesthesia; aspiration may be added. Laser does not remove every glandular component. Additional excision is discussed when necessary; access wounds and recovery are involved.

Early recovery and compression

The clinic plan generally anticipates around one month of chest compression, with daily wear and total duration individualised by the clinician. Mild bruising, swelling and tenderness may gradually settle. Follow personalised dressing, showering, work and exercise instructions.

One-month review and later results

At one month, less swelling may make contour changes easier to assess. This is not necessarily final: healing and contour maturation may take several months, often 3–6. Tissue composition, skin and weight changes affect results; perfect symmetry is not guaranteed.

Risks and when to seek help

Risks include bleeding, infection, fluid collection, burns, altered sensation, irregular contour or revision. Increasing one-sided swelling, worsening pain, fever, discharge or skin colour changes require review. Breathlessness or chest pain requires emergency care.

Frequently asked questions

Is it suitable for every grade?

No. The focus is selected mild-to-moderate grade I–II cases; substantial skin or gland may require different surgery.

How long is compression worn?

Usually around a month in this clinic plan, adjusted to the procedure and follow-up.

Is the result final at one month?

Early changes may be clearer, but final contour often settles over subsequent months.

Does laser remove the gland?

Firm gland may not be adequately treated by laser; excision may be considered.

Is a definite result achieved in one session?

Selected patients may see the intended improvement develop over time after one session; others may need further sessions or another approach. Outcomes vary and are not guaranteed. Nutrition, weight changes and exercise also influence the course and maintenance of results.

Is it the same as open surgery?

No. Endolaser is a minimally invasive fibre-based procedure through small entry points, rather than open excision or extensive lifting. Anaesthesia, access-site care and recovery are still required. Major excess skin or advanced laxity may be better addressed surgically.

When can I return to work?

After limited treatment, suitable patients may resume light work and daily activity the same day or soon afterwards. Body or facial compression may be needed and can delay work by 1–2 days in some cases. Larger areas, aspiration, sedation or strenuous jobs can require longer recovery. Your clinician confirms timing after treatment.
